The Lady Eagles Softball team got off on the right foot to start their season, going 6-1 on their annual Florida trip in Orlando. Benedictine recorded wins against Carthage (6-5), Trine (6-5), Bluffton (3-1), Wittenberg (6-2), Merchant Academy (2-1) and St. Francis (Ind.) (4-0). Their lone loss came against College of Mount St. Joesph (1-10).
Brittany Adcox started right where she left off last season. The Freshman of the Year in the NAC last year posted three wins, two saves and 31 strikeouts in 5 appearances. Junior Brittney Carnell added two more wins and freshman Kaitlin Walsh added another in the pitching circle for the Eagles.
The Lady Eagles offense came from many different contributors. Erin Galloway, Brittany Wolski, Stephanie Rybarczyk and Sam Corban each tallied two-hit games during the Florida trip. Adcox, Wolski, and Kara Walsh tallied three-hit games for the Eagles. Other Eagles hitters also produced at the plate as well.
"It's great to get out there, play and do well," Adcox said. "We still have a ways to go, but we got off to a good start and it's just good to get out there and play again."
Rain entered the Orlando area on Thursday and washed out the last game on Thursday and both games on Friday that the Eagles were supposed to play. The Eagles missed out on games versus Simpson College, Waynesburg University and nationally ranked U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
The Lady Eagles start play back up against Elmhurst at the Sports Complex on Thursday at 3 p.m.
