Benedictine University will do nothing less than show their support as well.
"Our Earth Hour celebration will focus mostly on on-campus students, so as not to increase the carbon footprint," said Dr. Jean-Marie Kauth, Writing Director and Assistant Professor.
"We'll begin in the Fireside Lounge, which should be dark, at 8:30 [p.m.] and tour the dorms, shutting off lights as we go."
BU's support for the Earth does not stop with Earth Hour. On Friday, April 9, there will be a symposium headed by Dr. Vince Gaddis entitled Faith and Reason: What is Sufficiency? featuring both BU faculty and off-campus speakers.
Thursday, April 22 is known as Earth Day, which is celebrated worldwide, and will also be celebrated on-campus. BU will kick off the celebration on Wednesday, April 21 with Green Elvis'
"Environmental Hits" at 7:30 p.m. in the Coal Ben where Elvis Presley music will be combined with environmentally respectable lyrics. Some of the songs that will be featured include "Don't Waste Fuel," "Burning Sludge" and "Can't Help Picking Up Trash With You."
Thursday's events, which are co-sponsored by Years for the Environment, Club 350 and the River Prairie Group of the Illinois Sierra Club, will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Krasa Student Center and conclude at 9 p.m. Some of the days' events include recycling collections, open mic/reading of environmental pieces, student poster presentation and a showing of "Food, Inc."
All attending are encouraged to show their support for the occasion by wearing green. For more information on the coming events, contact Kauth at ext. 6272.
