After having a killer season last year, the women's softball team is looking to carry last year's momentum into this season. The lady Eagles completed last years season with a record of 31-12, 20-4 in the NAC while outscoring their opponents 255 runs to 117.

"I think we are going to be just as good as last year, if not better," stated BU pitching ace Brittany Adcox. "We only lost three seniors and have plenty of talent to fill their spots. As long as we come out as strong as last year, there is no reason why we shouldn't have another dominant season."

The Eagles had six members of the team recognized among the league's postseason award winners. Adcox and Laura Christensen were on the NAC 1st team, while Kristen Bonk and Cassie Cappetto were on the 2nd team.

Brittany Wolski was on the NAC All-Sportsmanship team. Joining Adcox and Christensen was Kara Walsh to be part of the NAC All-Freshman team.

With a strong group of returners, the Lady Eagles hope to finish within the top three teams of the conference, just like last year. Of the six members receiving NAC honors last season, five of them will be returning to the field.

Bonk will be returning as well, but this time around she will be on the sidelines helping out as an assistant coach.

"We have a great mixture of veterans and young players," stated Cappetto."Our team has great chemistry and very talented girls."
The Eagles were led last season by Adcox and Christensen.

Adcox finished the season with a 1.85 ERA and a record of 18-7, striking out 138 batters. Christensen completed the season with a .418 batting average and 56 hits.

Other players to keep an eye out for are sluggers Kara Walsh and Cassie Cappetto. Walsh led the team in RBIs last season with 32 while Cappetto was right behind her with 29.

Wolski is another player to watch out for. She ended the season with an average of .358 and 11 stolen bases on 12 attempts.

"We have a couple of girls that can play multiple positions which is always a bonus," said Adcox. "Sometimes it takes us a while to wake our bats up but what we lack for in our bats we usually make up for on the field. When our gloves and bats are working together we are unstoppable."

After the conference pre-season poll, the Lady Eagles are picked to finish third. Major rival Aurora University was ranked to finish first, with Lakeland not far behind.

"We are always one of the top competitors for conference," stated Adcox. "We had some pretty clutch games last year that kept us near the top, but we came in 3rd behind Aurora and Lakeland. They are our two top competitors for conference, but I'm expecting to be in the top three again this year... hopefully first."

The Eagles open the 2010 season in Florida on March 7 with a pair of games against Carthage College and Trine University.
