"The Crazies"
Movie Review
Jonathan Cohen
Issue date: 3/2/10 Section: Scene
With a mix of surprise, suspense and gore "The Crazies" does prove to be somewhat of an original movie. Although it is a remake, this holds up to the horrors of today. Unlike other horror films, the movie takes hold of the viewer from the start instead of forcing the audience to watch the first 30 minutes of character buildup.
Not only does the story and suspense hold up, but the characters do, as well. This was achieved by a very strong main character, David Dutton, played by Timothy Olyphant. The other cast, from the towns' people to other supporting roles, make you believe that their small town is really going through a terribly 'hellish' situation.
This is fun to see in a theater but the experience would not change too much if watched on DVD.
