Benedictine University faculty, staff and students are not excluded from preparations for Valentine's Day. BU's annual tradition is returning to give those on campus another opportunity to celebrate the heartwarming holiday together at the Valentine's Day Dinner that will be held on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m.

Director of Student Activities, Emily Payne explained, "We've had the dinner ever since I started working here six years ago, but no one seems to be sure the exact year they started. It's just a lot of fun. Even those who don't have dates come with friends or groups and enjoy the atmosphere and a good dinner with a spin."

Every year, the dinner is held the Thursday around Valentine's Day. Students are required to make a reservation, so it is up to the individuals as to when their dinner will begin.

"We wall off Krasa ABC and have tables with table cloths and decorations. Students come at their reservation time and Associate Vice President [Marco] Masini will be there to greet and seat them as they are given a menu from which to select their drinks, salad, dinner, and dessert; and are served at their table by volunteer staff members," Payne said.

This year, Student Activities will be working with the Programming Board to make an addition to the annual dinner.

"Programming Board will bring a florist to sell flowers that will raise money for their relay for life team so make sure you bring cash for that. And we will also be giving away a beautiful floral arrangement both hours," said Payne.

The Valentines Day Dinner is similar to the theme dinners students experience for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but there will be a few differences to celebrate the occasion.

"This one is a little more intimate in that it is only in part of the cafeteria, the dinner is served rather than buffet style, and you must make a reservation either through Katie Buell (630-829-6128 or kbuell@ben.edu), the Student Activities office or at the cafeteria cash register ahead of time explaining what time you would like and how many are in your party," Payne explained.

Student Activities and Soexho have been working hard to make this night unforgettable. Attendees can use a meal swipe or by pay $7.50 and everyone is welcome to attend.

Payne enthused, "The last two years we have had marriage proposals happen at this dinner so, not to put any pressure on any of the students, but that is a great tradition I would love to see continue."
