That time of year is here. The time for everyone - sports fan or not - to gather together and watch one of the biggest spectacles in all of sports: the Superbowl. On Sunday, Feb. 7, Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts and Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints will try to lead their teams to the coveted Lombardi Trophy.

This year marks the first time that two No. 1 seeds have met in the Superbowl since the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills in 1993, and needless to say the expectations are high. The Saints have never appeared in a Superbowl previously, and for the city that was devastated by hurricane Katrina half a decade ago, a championship is exactly what they need in Louisiana.

Standing in their way, however, are the nearly perfect Colts, who controversially seemed to give up their shot at an undefeated season against the Jets in week 16 of the regular season.

The Saints were also undefeated through 13 games of the regular season, but lost their last three, leaving many critics to wonder if they had what it takes to make it to the big show. Both teams silenced critics of resting a team's starters by making it to the end, proving that a bye week doesn't necessarily have to be a curse for a team.

This Superbowl has a lot to live up to. The past two have had at least a handful of amazing plays and great competition lasting until the final drive. The stage has been set perfectly, so hopefully fans around the country will have something other than the commercials to look forward to.

Get ready for a clash of the titans - no, not the Tennessee Titans. Two worthy opponents will play this year's gridiron finale, and while the Colts are heavily favored to win their second championship in three years, the Saints have a potent enough offense to upset Manning and bring a title to the bayou.

The big day is approaching, and as you near the celebration remember a few things. If you are 21 and plan on drinking, find a ride; watch the game with people you care about, it's one more reason to spend some time with them; and DVR the whole thing, you never know when the next amazing play will happen.
