On Thursday, Dec. 10, Benedictine University will host its annual Christmas dinner at 4:30 p.m. This is an event that is designed to unite the community and bring everyone together before the holiday.
The dinner is open to all, and there a fee of $7.50 to attend and can be charged to the meal plan for resident students.
The director of food services at BU and the event coordinator Frank Budig, hopes to draw a large crowd. He feels hopeful that there will be a good turnout for the event, but he understands that people are very busy at this time of year too.
Budig has started planning for the event and has large menu designed stating that it will differ from the traditional menu that was for the Thanksgiving Dinner. For Christmas dinner, there will a greater focus on appetizers and desserts.
Budig states that there will be the student's favorites for appetizers: cheese sticks, chicken wings, fruit and a couple more that have yet to be announced. For the desserts, there will be German chocolate cake, N.Y. style cheesecake, carrot cake, a chocolate fountain, cookies and much more. There will also be eggnog and hot chocolate to enjoy with the deserts.
Even though there is a great deal of attention being paid to the appetizers and desserts, there is also a well planned out main course. There will be a variety of side dishes, vegetarian options, lemon chicken, and whole carved strip steak. The preparation of the food will start Monday, starting with baking.
Budig stated that this event will give the community something different and will be a change of pace. Even though there is a cost to enter, Budig states that there will be no profit made. In fact, the university even anticipates a loss.
Budig stated, "I think it's going to be a great night, although it will be a lot of work for the staff."
This is not just a great event for the students, but a way for the University to display their hospitality. There will be many of the staff and faculty working to welcome people and help make it an enjoyable night.
