Good teams always find a way to win, no matter how good or ugly the outcome maybe. The Benedictine University football team found a way to defeat the Warriors from Wisconsin Lutheran, 16-14 this past Saturday at the Sports Complex.

Both teams entered the contest with identical records, but the Eagles had the advantage of senior day on their side. Senior and parent acknowledgments took place before kickoff, but the intensity carried on until the final whistle.

The Warriors and Eagles came in ranked second and fourth in total defense. The Eagles defense only allowed 160 yards of total offense with 87 of those yards coming through the air.

Ryan Koziczynski and Billy Donovan each had five tackles. Donovan was credited with half a sack along with Devin Montgomery, who had four tackles for the defense.

Eddie Hill, Jr. and Dan Kleppin had three tackles and one sack but the biggest defensive play of the game was a sack by Hill, Jr.

The sack came on the Warriors 4th down in the fourth quarter and the Eagles took over on downs with less than three minutes to go in regulation.

This week, the Eagles offense won the time of possession by more than three minutes. The offense gained 248 yards and many of those were courtesy of the second half. In the second half, the Eagles mixed in a few passing plays to go along with the run.

Starting quarterback, Dave Klinger ran for 25 yards on six carries and threw for 11 yards on four attempts.

This week, Derek Hitt started at running back and he had 65 yards rushing on 13 carries and one touchdown. Backup running back, John Alessi rushed for 53 yards on 19 carries.

Backup quarterback, Matt Brown came in and had a significant impact on the football game. He completed eight of 15 passing attempts while throwing for 112 yards.

The go ahead score came from freshman kicker, Robert Miller. Miller missed an extra point in the second quarter after fullback, EricRitter scored the Eagles second touchdown.

Miller was called on early in the fourth quarter and he answered. He hit a 25 yard field goal, which was the game winner.
