Aldo Forte may not be teaching biology, Philip Sparke is not serving lunch in Krasa and nobody sees Camille Saints-Saens strolling about campus. Yet each of them find a home at Benedictine this fall.
The works of these composers and several others will be featured on Nov. 7 and Nov. 8 during BU's very own Festival of the Arts.
The Festival is an event that is brought to the Benedictine community once a semester and is presented by the BU Department of Music. It will include a performance by the Concert Band as well as recitals by students.
The Festival will begin Saturday, Nov.7, at 1 p.m. in Scholl Hall, Room 101, where Preparatory Music Students and Applied Students will perform.
The next performance of the Festival will take place on Sunday, Nov.8, at 4 p.m. in the St. Daniel Hall auditorium at Benet Academy. The Concert Band, conducted by music instructor Maryann Flock, will be presenting its "Animal, Vegetable, Mineral" concert.
The Festival will end with two student recitals at 7:30 p.m. in Scholl Hall, Room 101, on Sunday where juniors Stefanie Lostumbo, clarinet, and Meagan Walsh, bass clarinet, will be performing.
"This fall's Festival is going to be fun," said Lostumbo. "It's my third year playing in the Festival, but this is the first time I am doing a recital."
Being a clarinetist since fifth grade has allowed Lostumbo several opportunities to play in various different bands and chambers, including the Concert Band, which she joined in her freshman year.
"It's a fun, relaxed atmosphere to play in," Lostumbo said of the Concert Band.
Playing her first recital, however, is a different story.
"It's definitely nerve-racking, playing in front of your friends and family," admitted Lostumbo.
Her plan of attack: "You have to put any doubts to the side and not be nervous about it. I have been working hard on my pieces, and I am excited to have everyone listen to them."
Like Lostumbo, Walsh has been involved with music since fifth grade. She began with clarinet but decided to switch to bass clarinet two years later.
