Halloween Costume Contest
No one says children should be the only ones celebrating Halloween. Various BU organizations have created festivities for everyone on campus to enjoy - including a costume contest.

Orange trash bags lay out on curbs like gigantic jack o'lanterns; fake cobwebs cling on neighbor's bushes and stuffed scarecrows sit on their porches. These sights mark the traditional preparation for one particular impending event - Halloween.
For some, it is easy to get excited. After all, this haunted holiday only comes once a year, and the goodies that come along with it - costumes, decorations and candy by the pound - appeal to many. Could anyone pass this creepy-crawly, yet beloved celebration by?
Whatever the answer, many people share in the decoration-ogling, candy-gobbling festivities, but only do so with a single spider-ring on their finger. They don a single vampire cape; a single pair of Harry Potter glasses.
Where has all the thought and effort of this epic dress-up game disappeared to?
No one may ever know, but there still remain the loyal, the ones who have not cheated Halloween out of creativity and hard work, and these enthusiasts are invited to a special event happening right here on campus.
The annual BU Halloween Costume Contest will be held on Thursday, Oct. 29 in the Krasa Dining Room from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The costume contest is an occasion that invites all faculty, staff, students, and families to dress up for a chance to win prizes.
Contestants are put into one of three categories: students, faculty/ staff or family members. The judging panel, which in the past has included Bro. Rick Poro and the university nurses, will consist of three staff members this year - however, they are undetermined as of yet. They will judge the contestants on the creativity of their costumes and choose one winner from each category.
Emily Payne, Director of Student Activities and organizer of the Halloween Costume Contest recalled last year's winners.
"We had a student dressed up as the Queen of Hearts … a faculty member was a dead bride … my son and husband went as Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat."
The creativity of the costumes impressed the judges, but what really wowed them was the undying dedication to Halloween. The Queen of Hearts dyed her hair for her role and the corpse bride stayed in costume all day, "which was really cool," said Payne.
In addition to celebrating the spirit of Halloween, contestants provide amusement to fellow classmates and co-workers and winners receive prizes.
This year, Student Activities is giving away special packages that include passes to both the Hollywood Boulevard and the new Hollywood Palms movie theatres.
Payne encourages anyone who has the slightest interest to participate and make this the best contest yet.
"Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays," said Payne. "I just want kids to dress up and have fun."
Payne's advice to contestants and all of the BU community, "Wear [your] costumes to class. Have fun with it all day."
