The Benedictine football team kicked off their conference season with a huge win against the defending NAC champions, Aurora University. BU defeated AU, 21-14 this past Saturday at the Sports Complex.
The Eagles are now (2-2,1-0) and are looking for more conference wins. Before the season began, head coach Jon Cooper told his team to focus on the process of winning and not just winning games.
The game was exciting, electric and full of rain. The Eagles defense played tremendously. They compiled three interceptions from the secondary. Tim Shannhan, Matt McWilliams and Travis Newsome all had a pick for the Eagles.
"Defense wins championships," said Coach Cooper.
The Eagles look to continue winning as they are on a two game wining streak and they look to see if they can play well on the road.
That's the next test for this team and the answer will come soon enough.
The Eagles next game is Saturday Oct. 10 against Concordia University (Wisconsin).
