The Lady Eagles looked solid all game.Led by another outstanding performance from junior standout Kayla Leyden, the Eagles looked like the team to beat.
The Eagles won the first game 25-22 in a back and forth affair. They took control late as BU won four of the last five points to close the game after being tied with Concordia,21-21.
The key turning point in the match came in the second set when the Eagles found themselves down, 19-23, as CUC looked to tie the match up at a game apiece. However, BU scored seven straight point on senior Jessica Judge's serve to rally and take game two, 25-23.
The Eagles continued their domination in the fourth game and took game four, 25-17.
Leyden tallied another fine night on the attack, recording 23 kills. She also added 12 digs on the defensive side. Judge and sophomore Taylor Hoppe each had double digit assists on the night, 20 and 12 respectively. Junior Jackie Rust led the defense with 20 digs for the evening.
The win moved Benedictine to 3-1 in the NAC and 7-11 overall.
Coach Jennifer Wildes believed this is exactly what her team needed.
"We came out strong in games one and two, and battled back after our loss to take game four," said Coach Jennifer Wildes.
The Eagle's find themselves right in the thick of the NAC race near the middle of their schedule. They are currently in a tie for fourth but are only one game back of co-leaders Dominican, Lakeland and Aurora.
"So far we've been good at home and we want to continue that," Wildes said. "This win is a big step as we face Dominican on Saturday and we have three conference games next week."
Benedictine's next home game is Tuesday Oct. 6th at 8 p.m. against Alverno College at the Rice Center.
