This Monday begins National Public Health week, alerting students to the importance of public health in their everyday lives. BU's Masters of Public Health Student Advisory panel, made up of public health graduate students, is organizing this year's NPH week.
Each day will have a speficic theme, including the nation, workplace and home. During the week the MPH panel will be placing signs on everything that is related to public health. These areas include hand sanitizers, water faucets, wet floor signs and stop signs.
"People should be aware of what's going on around them," said MPH student Kristina Davis. She says public health is, "about social status. If you have a job … it's all these other factors that people don't think about."
"Our awareness, education, and action can help everyone get the health services they need. Students at Benedictine should become aware, educate themselves and take action in creating a learning environment that promotes healthy living inside and outside of school," said Abrar Salam, an MPH student. Students are encouraged to look out for the signs which feature a website printed on them. The website, thisispublicheath.org, gives more information about schools and careers in public health and information on issues within the community.
