"We are always looking for something to connect us all. Culture Shock, though competitive, will help unite the campus," said Nikki Loomba, president of BUUF.
"I feel opening our eyes to different cultures utilizing knowledge is empowering. It's the epitome of the liberal arts education," added senior Megan Nakra, who is on the Culture Shock committee.
Students, who sign up in teams of two, will receive questions via e-mail every week and will gain points by answering the questions correctly and turning them in by 9 p.m. the next night. Teams will also be able to wager points to break ties. The final four teams will compete in a quiz-show-like game for first place and a tuition reduction. According to Loomba, the final amount is not finalized because the more students that participate, the higher the amount will be.
The BUUF board worked on the rules and decided on sending out the questions at a time to make it convenient for students' schedules.
"We attempted to make the game fun and educational at the same time. These questions, in effect, should be easy to find, and answer," said Nakra. To answer the questions, students will have to do Internet or book-based research.
The Unity Campaign will also allow students to gain a head start on the game. Students can gain points for their groups by attending the different events this week.
