In the final home game for the Lady Eagles, Benedictine finished with a bang, beating Alverno College by a score of 64-44. After having a slow start and not getting many buckets, Benedictine turned up their offense as well as their defense to end their three-game skid and get back on the winning track.

This time it was the Eagles' turn to get even with the Inferno and tie up the season series at one win each. The last time these two teams played, BU was out-rebounded 42 to 41 and they had a lower shooting percentage - 31.3% to 38.9% - as AU went on to beat the Lady Eagles by a score of 56-54.

Tonight's game was different, as Benedictine out-rebounded the Inferno, 68 to 40. The Eagles also had a higher field goal percentage of 32.9 percent compared to Alverno's 25.4 percent.

Even though both teams had 28 points a piece in the paint, the Lady Eagles' second chance points and bench came in very helpful in this victory.

The Eagles had many reasons that their last home game was a must-win. One reason was to end their skid and get back on track with winning. Another reason was to get some energy and momentum for the last two games going into the post season.

"We played well as a team and our team played with a lot of energy," said senior guard Laketa Simpson about the victory.

Laketa Simpson led all scorers with 18 points, while Blair Erickson and Jenn Bren each had 11.

After having 32 points at halftime, the Eagles were able to double their score at the end of the game and improve their record to 10-12 overall. Their record in the Northern Athletics Conference South division stands at 7-9.

Before this game Benedictines four seniors - Blair Erickson, Laketa Simpson, Penny Bournas and Kristyn Cropper - were honored in a pregame ceremony for their accomplishments, both on and off the court.

Laketa Simpson mentioned that the most memorable part of the evening was getting another chance to play with the seniors.

"All of the seniors were on the court and all of the seniors were able to score a bucket and have points at the end of the game," said Simpson.

With the win, Benedictine looks to climb into the postseason. "We know what we have to do and we know we have to execute, but we have high expectations and hope to go far in the post season," said Simpson.
