Sophomore Jenn Bren and Junior Monika Krozel each contributed with 18 points. Bren also pulled down eight rebounds, seven of which were offensive boards.
The first half started off slow as neither team's offense was able to get a rhythm going in the first half. Both teams traded baskets back-and-forth thanks to a good defensive presence on both sides of the court and some missed opportunities.
In fact, neither the Eagles nor the Stars were able to go up by more than five points throughout the first half. Heading into halftime the score remained close, 28-27.
Dominican came out of intermission on fire, going on a 10-0 run in the opening minutes of the half. Lindsay Trent had most of the offense for the Stars in the second half, scoring 13 points, but it wasn't enough for the Lady Eagles onslaught that would follow.
The Eagles got their struggling offense going thanks to Tracey Walsh, who broke the Stars' run with a pivotal lay-up to bring BU within three points. Walsh was quiet in the first half, but scored 10 second-half points while pulling down eight rebounds to help the Eagles.
Both Walsh and Senior Laketa Simpson brought Benedictine back from its deficit. With 13:51 left, Simpson made a layup that put the Eagles ahead for the first time since the Stars' run.
Dominican took the lead right back and held it for the next two minutes until Bren came in from the bench and gave the Eagles the lead and the momentum they needed for a victory. Bren scored on the next four BU possessions to bring the Eagles back from a 3-point deficit to a 3-point lead and put them out in front for good.
I would have to say it gave us energy," said Bren on the team's final run over Dominican. "At the beginning, our perimeter shots weren't working for us so we had to focus on defense."
"Once that started picking up then our energy was up and our offense started working," she Bren.
The victory brought the Eagles back to the .500 mark in two categories as they now have a 6-6 record in the Northern Athletics Conference to go along with a 9-9 overall record. The team's next home game is Feb. 7 against Concordia.
